Ask Mr Sunspot

Hi! My name is Mr Sunspot and I know a lot about the Sun, Moon, planets, stars, and other astronomical things. If you have a question about something astronomical, then perhaps I know the answer. First check if the answer to your question is already in my Answer Book and search the PR pages to see if they already contain what you are looking for. If your question is about the Sun, then you may also want to read the Solar Zoo Page. If your question is about how science works, then you may want to read the Science Page. If your question is not answered yet, then feel free to send your question to me.

Type your question in this big rectangle.

I'd like to know who you are, so fill in the information below. I do request that you enter your name, because it is quite impolite to send someone a letter and not to let them know who is sending it. I do not feel compelled to react to anonymous letters. Also, I find it awkward to send emails to "Dear Anonymous". However, I can understand if you do not want the whole world to know who you are, so if you do not want your name to appear in Mr Sunspot's Answer Book then add "(anonymous)" to your name. In that case I still know who I'm talking to, but nobody else will.
Your name:
Your home town & country (*):
Your age (*):

The entries with a (*) behind them are optional: you do not have to fill them out if you don't want to. If you do not enter your age, then I am going to assume that you are an adult. If you specify an email address, then be sure that the address is spelled correctly and complete, including the part after the @, for example username@host.address.

If you cannot submit a question through your browser, then send me an email at mr-sunspot@nso.edu with your question and personal information in it.

I'll send my answer to your email address, if you specified one. If the answer to your question is of interest to other readers, then I'll (also) put my answer in Mr Sunspot's Answer Book, so if I could not send my answer to you by email, for instance because your email address was missing, incomplete, or incorrect, then you'll have to check the Answer Book once in a while to see if your question has been answered.

Mr Sunspot is also busy with other things, so it may take a while before you get your answer. Be patient!

NOTE: The first Mr Sunspot, Dr. Louis Strous, has left Sunspot. primary Mr Sunspot duties, have now been taken over by other individuals at NSO/SP
