Dear Astronomer,

New Mexico is a wonderland for Astronomy. The work and play that goes
on here is incredible, but I've noticed that our various groups and individuals
don't communicate much outside of their area. I'd like to try and change that.

I'd like to enhance Astronomical Communications across the state with an
e-mail list server that we can all use to keep track of events and topics that
pertain to amateur astronomy in New Mexico.

A server like this could help answer questions like:

What Lecture series does the Santa Fe Community College offer this fall?

Does the new Rio Rancho High School Observatory have public nights?

What's going on at the Space Museum or Lodestar this month?

How can I learn about Project Astro?

What is coffee shop astronomy?

Does the VLA have a public program?

Where can I get my mirror recoated?

Does Sunspot offer a public program this week?

Who's having a star party this weekend?

The New Mexico Astronomy list server is open to anyone who loves
astronomy and wants to share their list of activities, and learn what
others are doing, via e-mail. This is an idea started and run by me,
Sammy Lockwood. No specific club or organization runs this list.

The simple goal is to share information.

The astronomers that get this message are people that I have
either personally met, exchanged mail with, read about, or that I
believe may be interested in this type of exchange. This is not spam.
I gave thought to every recipient of this invitation.

To subscribe to this new list server, please e-mail to:

http://www.eccentrix.com/personal/sammy/nm_astronomy/

No subject or body is necessary in the message, just send. You'll get
an automated confirmation note that will need to be replied to, and
finally an acceptance note from me. I will retain control of subscribers
to avoid spamming and improper use. I have assurances that
egroups, the company that provides this list, will not give out our
information.

I hope that you will join this list, and tell others about it. I think
that it could evolve into something really special.

Darkskies!

Sammy Lockwood
